FREEDOM FUND COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
The Henry County NAACP Branch will award its 2017 - 2018 Freedom Fund College Scholarship to a graduating senior in Henry County Public Schools in need of financial assistance to achieve their goal of a higher education. The award, for tuition and fees, will be sent to the Office of Student Financial Aid October 2017 upon official verification of enrollment/matriculation as a full-time student at an accredited four-year college or university beginning fall 2017. The official verification of enrollment/matriculation must be provided to the Henry County NAACP by the college or university after the fall 2017 semester begins. The nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement, awards/honors; school, extracurricular, community service, and leadership activities; and financial need. Recipient(s), nor their parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to be members of the Henry County NAACP Branch, but are encouraged to join. Scholarship recipient(s) will be recognized at the Annual Freedom Fund Banquet, March 17, 2017.

 

The scholarship packet and supporting documents must be completed and postmarked no later than February 1, 2017; mail to: Henry County NAACP Branch, Attn: Scholarship Committee, P O Box 1452, Stockbridge, GA 30281. Applications will be deemed ineligible if not in compliance with these guidelines. See checklist below. CHECKLIST, ELIGIBILITY & SELECTION CRITERIA

Complete 2017-2018 Scholarship Application – typewritten only

No electronic signatures

Be a high school senior in Henry County Public Schools and live in Henry County

Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Submit an official copy of your latest official high school transcript

Submit one copy of your senior year first semester report card

Submit one copy of your SAT and/or ACT score report

Have participated in academic enrichment, extracurricular, community service, leadership activities

Demonstrate financial need

Submit a one-page essay on one of the topics provided (12 pt., double-spaced, with title and name)

Submit a one-page biography (12 pt., double-spaced, with title and name)

Submit a wallet size graduation photo (no proofs)

Submit one letter of recommendation on letterhead (guidance counselor, teacher or administrator)

Participate in a panel interview on February 25, 2017

Attend the Annual Freedom Fund Banquet on March 17, 2017

 

INTERVIEW

Once the completed application packet is reviewed, potential recipients are required to participate in a panel interview. The interview will assess your delivery – overall appearance, composure, eye contact, body language, and ability to communicate. The dress code is business attire.
